Last weekend our staff attended the FILM + MUSIC Conference presented by Musicbed + Filmsupply at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. The conference was great, and rather than trying to capture the entirety of our experience in one blog post, we've collected our top three takeaways below.

Takeaway #1: Keynotes (Robert Legato)
It’s hard to imagine a better opportunity for aspiring filmmakers and other visual creatives than hearing from Robert Legato. He was the opening keynote speaker on day one and if setting the bar insanely high was the goal, the team at Filmsupply certainly achieved that. Robert Legato is the VFX mastermind behind The Jungle Book, Hugo, Titanic, Apollo 13 and a host of other blockbusters. It's an impressive body of work that has landed him three Oscars. As one of our associate creative producers said,
“Robert Legato is a badass. Hearing him speak about tackling the impossible, turning “no's” into “how's,” and finding your force of will was a great way to kick off the conference. We should all be thinking more like him.”
Our favorite part of his presentation was his work on Martin Scorsese's Alfred Hitchcock sendup called The Key To Reserva.
Takeaway #2: Breakouts (Adrienne Weiss)
Adrienne Weiss is a leader in the film industry as a private directing coach and script consultant for television and advertising. Think Girls, 30 Rock, Grey’s Anatomy and Nike’s Margot vs. Lily web series. For most of our staff, Adrienne’s breakout was a 45-minute masterclass in crafting compelling narratives--whether it be a feature-length film or a :30 second web video.
Adrienne walked us through the necessary elements for a good story and presented several examples of how they’re executed in film and commercial settings. For so many brands, we’re entrusted with the honor of capturing and clearly communicating their messages on camera and Adrienne’s session could not have been more apropos.
Our Director of Marketing mentioned this was the single most beneficial breakout session he’s ever attended.
Takeaway #3: Community
Our last takeaway was the unique vibe we encountered during the conference. We’ve been embedded in Fort Worth’s film culture for well over a decade now, but we believe that the FILM + MUSIC conference is redefining a new creative scene not only in Fort Worth but across the country. The conference provides a place for so many up-and-coming creatives from everywhere to collect and inspire or to be inspired.
As a production company, we particularly enjoyed being around this young, talented and motivated creative class.
