On Set: Fox's Lonestar

On July 27th filming for the latest 20th Century Fox TV drama, Lone Star begins. In addition to the trailer they have been running the last month, Fox created a series of promo videos to entice viewers and give a better idea of what’s to come in Lone Star’s premiere season. Red Productions came in with three teams to join the Fox and Stone Core Films for the 2-day shoot. One team was responsible for capturing design elements within each scene while the other two filmed interviews and b-roll with the cast, helping to define each character role within the series.

Lone Star is a drama that follows Bob Allen as he navigates the rough waters of the Texas oil business, leading two separate lives in Midland and Houston. Deemed a “provocative soap set against the backdrop of Big Texas oil,” Lone Star is bound to be a hit. The diverse landscaping within DFW allowed the entire promo to be shot within a 50-mile radius, using a ranch in Aledo and contrasting Downtown Dallas to represent Midland and Houston.

Thanks to Governor Perry and the Texas Film Commission’s new Moving Image Industry Incentive Program, there has been an influx of TV and film business right here in North Texas. Over the last year the DFW metroplex has been home to series such as Prison Break, The Deep End and The Good Guys and Lone Star is the next in queue. Since the implementation of the incentive program Texas has fielded 206 projects that have lead to almost 30,000 full time jobs and $184 million in spending. Many filmmakers are looking outside the Mecca of production, LA, due to poor incentives and changing physical landscape. Team Red Prod is thrilled that others are finally experiencing what Texas has to offer.
